This motor is one of those Mercs that has the extension piece in the lower housing and the exhaust tube, its between the lower housing and the lower unit, probably 5" wide. The original exhaust tube was gunked up with red RTV to hold it in place, is this standard practice? The lower extension piece goes on top of the lower unit, does that get sealed to keep water out or should there be a gasket between the pieces? After all the water pump is sealed and the exhaust tube is sealed, where would the water end up? There are holes in the lower unit with plastic inserts, maybe that is where the enters and leaves.

As always... excuse the nube questions.

Year and model would help.
