I have a 98 Johnson 4 stroke rope start. The codes are FRLECM which I read as 4Stroke;Rope Start;Long(20)shaft;98;M production run
the first thumbnail is the actual motor, with the plate on it.
I am looking at another motor that is the same year and the seller says it is also a long shaft, 20", see the
second thumbnail below. i don't know the codes on it.
clearly the second motor has an extra 5" segment in it.
Is mine mislabled or did i get the code wrong. Mine measures roughly 18" from the top of the transom down to the plate that has the sting ray plate on it.
Do you think the original owner who sold me this in '99 actually shortened the shaft length?
