I am shopping for exhaust manifolds and risers. Looking for feedback - good or bad - on any of the aftermarket products. Sierra, Barr, Osco, GLM? I know OEM would be best, but twice the price? Thanks in advance for your response.

I avoid the GLM because of the mating surface is not always flat.

The Barr-Oscoe brands are good.I never tried Sierra..
look at ebasicpower.com..;)

i used Barr risers and manifolds-made in usa-pressure tested and i heard they make them for VP-bought mine at lighthouse marine-i did not use there gaskets but used VP steel gaskets and later sierra riser gaskets which my local 70 west marina volvo penta dealer uses.paid 599.00-use a torque wrench. Barr has a tech line as well.

I would buy Volvo Penta ones. They are the best and will last longer than the aftermarket ones.

I am sure DonS would agree.

Yeah..but they are willing to buy a new motor when their manifolds fail. Penny wise and pound foolish.

My Volvo manifolds last a LONG time. I also use neutra salt. I don't get any of the problems that many posters on this site have with the aftermarket manifolds.

Re: Ready for new manifolds and risers...

yea,Running in salt i would always want the Volvo manifolds.
Those new HGE brand are heavy duty and say made in the USA but who knows how they hold up in the long run.
The few sets i have installed have had zero problems but OEM is always the best.
Any boat i work on i give them a choice but always tell them OEM is best thats why the cost is more.95% of the people want the least expensive route..

OEM if possible, but I've been running GLM manifolds and risers on my Merc for about 6 years now without any issues. The paint on them was poor, but thats nothing thats not easily fixed. I've not had any problems with leakage or gasket failure.
