Hi all. About to do a reseal job on the LU of my '66 20 hp, but I was wondering if there were some cheaper/more readily available alternatives to 3M 847. I've read posts here in the forums that say Permatex #2 has served people well and I've also heard that Permatex 1000 will work. I suppose I can get the 847, if I have to, but it seems ridiculously overpriced and hard to get in regular stores. Thanks for any ideas.

Permatex Ultra Black worked well for me when I resealed my '73 18 hp fastwin.

And you can get it at just about any walmart or parts house around ya. I think its like $6 or so per 3 ounce tube.

Permatex#2 holds up better to oil and fuel mixes than any of the silicone based sealants.

I'll still stick with the 3M 847. It's just like the Sealer 1000 OMC had yrs ago.
