Hello all,

I read an article about ethenol fuels, and they recommended that you change your fuel mix from 50:1 to 30:1 to combat the extra heat from burning alchohol...Any thoughts on this?

It is nonsense. Ethanol (E-10) burns cooler, not hotter than straight gas. Do not adjust fuel/oil mix.

Was that written by a 2-cycle oil manufacturer perhaps?

No, lol it was a local rag about fishing I picked up in the gift shop in a hospital. I run a hair rich, closer to 45:1, but I seen the 30:1 and thought maybe that was for fogging the mosquitoes off the lake.

Adding more oil means it will run leaner (oil has a higher viscosity, plus it displaces the the same amount of gas), running leaner in this way can increase the temperature in the combustion chamber.

Adding ethanol can (it's possible) also make it run leaner, at 10% there's not much of a difference, but again, could cause it to run hotter.

Will any of these things cause problems in a typical outboard....no, but the rules still apply.
