Good evening gents. In the process of basically restoring this motor and I’ve come to the point where I’m ready replace the control box. Can’t seem to find something that’s compatible with this old of a motor. Want to get something new but I’m unsure of getting anything cause they all have plugs and the connection of the old box is a 7 pin plug that runs the battery and ground along with like 7 other wires that come from the box so I need a little guidance on how to move forward. Thanks guys and this definitely won’t be the last post. Y’all coming along this journey 😂😂

Isn't there enough slack/extra wire to cut off the box wiring and solder in new wires? Usually the wiring harness is 20+ feet or more.

It is very long but a lot of those wires, their sleeves are dry rotted but that 7 pin plug used for my motor is hard to find. I’m pretty sure all the wires are still good so I’m gonna try to use them. Can I wire it to any new control box made for mercury?

You could graft the old wiring to a new control box, however, from your description the quick disconnect plug is bad/getting bad, so that does not solve the issue.

A new control for $150 or so will come with a new boat harness and a round plug, different from what you have now, but the wire functions are compatible. You could then cut off the plug and hard wire it to the motor or look for a new wiring harness with the matching plug, that could be adapted to your motor. What shape is your current engine harness? Usually they are pretty bad by this time if not replaced.
