I read a posting about re-locating the water outlet to somewhere on the top of the engine as opposed to the original location on the bottom of a 1975 500 merc (50 hp ser# 4284564) but I am unable to find the new location for the outlet.
Currently I have no water coming from the pee hole but lots coming out of the brass plug location between 2 & 3 spark plug when the brass plug is removed. Also, does this engine have a thermostat? I haven't replaced the impeller yet.

Re: re-routing the pee hole

Here is a link to the parts for your engine:

MERC 500 - Mercury, Mercruiser, Force, etc. Parts Lookup

See your present hose attaching at item 11 under CYLINDER BLOCK AND CRANKCASE ASSEMBLY. I have a few installed there without any problems but the next best would be item 4, a plug located on top.

No, it does not have a thermostat. Have you shoved a piece of lawn trimmer line up the present tube to ensure that there is no blockage?

Re: re-routing the pee hole

I had no tell-tell hardware on my 500 so I did the plug "4" thing. Added an elbow and hose to an existing tell-tell port on the lower cowling. Works great for me. You will have to plug the your existing hose barb.

Before anything, try clearing the hose as Gerry said.
