I'm thinking about repowering from a yamaha 2000 VMAX 150 2 stroke to a 2018 yamaha SHO 150 or 175... I'm trying to figure out how much weight is too much, as the 175 SHO wet weight is about 100lbs heavier than the current engine. I can't find the specs for the SL185 for maximum weight either. Any help would be appreciated.

you have a capacity tag on the boat. Maximum weight OR maximum people, and maximum HP

ya, I saw that... I would think that the manufacturer would have some input on how much weight the transom itself could handle. I have the data on this tag and the maximum HP is 175, but I'm having a hard time finding out what the weight of a 2-stroke engine in 2000 was for comparison.

it looks like the wright of the yamaha VMAX 175 was 740 pounds, and that sounds way too heavy in comparison, That's about 100# heavier than the wet weight of the 2018 yamaha SHO 175. There's just a bunch of conflicting information.
