I'll be pulling my motor off my current boat, and reinstalling on a new 1948 flat bottom custom aluminum skiff soon. Originally installed by dealer on this current smaller semi-v Alweld 1548.
So the object is to get the cavitation plate dead even with the bottom of the boat right? Almost certainly will have to raise motor just a bit, so what the easiest way to shim up the motor off the transom top, but still be able to get them shims out when done? Just small wood blocks or such? Any tips/tricks? I would think get the motor sitting right, then clamp it down with the 2 screw clamps, then drill the four mounting holes right thru the bracket for a guide? Trying to minimize scratching, and screwing up a new paint job.
I'll have some muscle help to move the 200+lb motor when that time comes. This a short transom motor and boat.
BTW, my motor is great so far, recently did almost 60miles on just over 6gal gas, just easy running and sight seeing.
Thx
