I need clarification on instructions provided in Mercruiser Service Manual. I am adjusting shift cables on twin V-6 1998 mercruisers (Alpha One Gen 2). When re-installing the shift assist, the manual says to tighten the rear nut until it bottoms and then back off 1/2 turn. I'm not sure what they mean by "bottom" because the stud is spring loaded. Do the instruction mean to tighten until the spring is fully compressed and then back off; or bottom until the nut makes 1st contact with the shift assist unit? Thanks for your help.

In simple English you dont tighten down the nuts "tight", the cable must be able to move on the studs
