I have to re carpet my bunks. The carpet (or material) is thin at the end so you can almost feel the wood and soon it will scratch the boat? Wanted advise on type of materials and fasteners to use.
Also, how hard is it to put in a new braking system (everything front to back)hydrolic lines and all?
Former owner let the system go dry!
It's a dual axle for a 20 footer- EZ Loader.
Thanks.

Just use marine grade carpet which you can get from Home Depot or Lowes and staple it on on the sides and bottom - don't use staples on the top of the bunks or it'll scratch your boat.

Re: Re-Carpeting Bunks?

I replaced the bunks and carpet on my trailer last summer. I had enough carpet left over from capeting the boat. Used treated 2X6 for the bunks. Used carpet glue and long roofing nails to attach the carpet to the bunks. Nail on the backside of the bunks. Looks good and is holding up so far but it has only been 6 months. Used the boat lots in the fall but only been in the water a couple of times since November.

I replaced the bunks on my trailer a couple years ago. Used treated 8' 2x4's. One thing I did was chamfer the end of the bunk at the rear. Helps a little when loading.

I recarpet mine last spring, with 100% nylon commercial carpet, fixed with Arrow stainless staples. It work fine. I also screwed the 2x6 with stainless steel screws. If no rusting steel is in contact with wood, you don't need to use treated lumber that is so toxic. I dismantled a spruce deck that was 18 years old last summer, It was nailed with ss nails in many places, and only parts that ave been in contact with rusty steel nails and lag bolts was rotten!

i also re-did my bunks this past summer, new carpet from home depot is holding up ok. i make it a point now to spray silicone on the bunks every other month or so. it helps alot, carpet isn't matting down to form hard spots anywhere yet.

don't unhook your bow-eye before you're in the water though.
