Howdy Yall.
I recently replaced the thermostat in my engine. I ensured it was an exact replacement and that it was installed correctly.
However, I’ve noticed that the “pee hole” after the thermostat has intermittent flow. I am assuming because it is after the thermostat, what I am seeing is when it opens and water is flowing, and not raw water from the pump.
With the old stat I did have a weak flow almost always, but I think that was because it had junk in it that prevented it from closing.

Please advise, tia!

It should pee all the time, unless the impeller is bad.
The old impeller, when removed was it in 1 piece or missing vanes?
Try back flushing the pee hole?

Not sure what you meant by intermittent. Normally, if the pee tube is after the t-stat, it will only have flow when the t-stat opens up. And even on the muff it shouldn't take no more than 2-3 minutes of idling and the t-stat should open. Now if that is what you meant by intermittent, then that is normal. In short, as soon as water starts flowing out of the pee tube, it should be continuous as long as the motor is running and still warm. However, if the water flow is on and off after it already started, then something is not right. As for the t-stat installation, I describe a t-stat having two sides the bellow side and the coil/spring side. And the coil/spring side goes in first to the block while the bellow side (pointed end) faces outward of the block.
