Hello. I am planning a trip to raystown lake in late august . I know nothing of the lake, and I live in Bethlehem PA. I have heard of seven points is a good place to launch. I need to know where to stay, and if the place is worth the trip. Thanks so much for the help. Dave.

Re: Raystown Lake

What kind of a place do you prefer to stay in? Do you like rustic cabins, camping, Bed & Breakfasts, or motels? Lots of places to stay ...

If you are coming from Bethlehem, you will be coming on Rte 22, which means you will come to Huntingdon first. If staying in a motel, the recommendation would be the Comfort Inn which is just off Rte 22 on 4th St. Snyder's Run Boat Launch will be your closest launching point from there (about 5 miles) and is a decent launch.

Seven Points is nice - camp grounds, visitor's center, hiking trails, and they are working on (might have finished it by now) an MX Bike trail. Public and private launch, Marina if you want to rent a slip for the day or week, boat rentals, house boat rentals (18 of them I think), Restaurant, etc. It is about 12 miles from Huntingdon and the Comfort Inn, but there are cabins, Bed & Breakfasts, and Camping that are closer.

Raystown Resort (about 20 miles from Huntingdon) has a hotel, restaurant, cabins, camping, boat rentals, a water park and Mini-golf. Other amenities are outside the park.

The Lake itself is a deep lake (about 190 feet at the deepest), and most of the shoals (there are a handful) are well marked. If you like fishing, it will be tough in late August ... most of the fish will be deep and harder to find and convince to bite, but it can be done.

The lake surface temp is currently 83 degrees, and it won't get too much warmer by late August. Hope that helps. I may be around in late August if you need anything ... but I may be half way around the world ... working on those details now. Give a shout here, or PM me if you need more information.

Re: Raystown Lake

We're going to Raystown leaving early tomorrow and staying all week.
A whole bunch of us, 16 people and 5 boats. We rented three houses only about a mile from the ramp at Snyders Run. Did the same last year and we just had to go back this year. Talked about Lake Anna and Smith Mountain Lake, but Raystown seems to be everybodys favorite.
Will be spending alot of time around the beach at Seven Points. And all over the lake pulling the kids on the tube.
My boat is a 19 foot Slickcraft closed bow give a holler if any of you see us.
We have been saving all year for this, can't hardly believe it's finally time!

I'd love to give you a yell, but I have a bunch of teens coming for our annual youth camp ... no lake for me from Sunday - Sunday. Sorry we will miss you. You are about 5 or 6 miles from my house. So close and yet so far ...
