raw water cooling strainer, where?

I can't find the filter that is supposed to filter the raw water to cool my engine. I have a bayliner 2855 '01 with a mercruiser engine and a bravo drive. When I open the engine hatch I see the pump out hose directly in front of me against the transom. To my right I see the generator....to my left I see my water heater. But I can't trace the hose that goes into the engine and the filter that there should be. I would appreciate it if anyone could help me.

Ohhh, one more thing. The manual for the boat doesn't have a diagram on where to find this.

Thanks.

It probably doesn't have a raw water strainer, seldom do they install a strainer on an outdrive with a gas engine.

I don't know if it makes a difference...or I am being redundant...but it's an I/O. The manual refers to a strainer.
