Hi all, I hear this is the best place on the internet for boat owners. I'm a new boat owner as this summer I picked up a 2005 Four winns 210

The motor is a Mercruiser 350 MPI/B1

The question I have is it took me a while to figure out that I have to take the water/fuel separator off to get to my raw water pump to change the impeller. below is the picture of the "tab" on the 2nd bolt hole that was causing me grief. Can I cut this tab off? is there any reason why I should keep it on? Without it on I could take the pump off in a matter of minutes..not the hour and a half it took me to figure it out.

thanks for you time...Kevin

While i'm at it..here is a picture of my boat on a camping trip with the family this summer. it was taken at about 1:00am This was on Stave lake in an area that no one ever boats too. I little part of paradise in my back yard.

We boat everyday in the summer on this lake with dinner and a swim to finish off our day.

hope it's ok to post this

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,...

It's your boat, you can do any darn thing ya wanta do to it.....

That tab is probably there for a Reason,... Not familiar with your set-up, so can't say...

Did you find ALL the missin' pieces of that impeller,..??
If not,...
Get used to takin' things apart....

Btw,... It's quite common to have to remove a Ton of other stuff to get where ya wanta be...
It's called Mechanicin'.....;)

you might be better serve to listen

did you check your oil cooler and passages for the missing impeller parts?

as far as your comment on removing the bracket tab.

not something a mechanic would resort to.
as bondo told you

if you start hacking it up it will decrease the value when you sell

Fun; I think you misunderstood.
Bond-O is trying to save you some trouble.
He's right about the impeller pieces - you may have many clogging your system.
REAL important.

Tell me; I'm curious how did the tab give you grief?

Re: raw water bracket --can I grind it off?

I've been using a hacksaw to remove that tab for a few years now.
Last winter at Mercruiser school I noticed one of the brackets laying in a pile of other parts, so I grabbed it and went to ask the instructor about the tab. Thats when I saw that the bracket didn't have a tab on it and it was obvious it had never had a tab. The instructor did a quick poll of all the mechanics in the class and almost all of us were cutting that tab off whenever we did a impeller job. Instructor than called the factory and found out that some of the brackets have the tab and some don't, nobody knew why.
So I say cut it off and speed up the job the next time.
Didn't think Bondo was being a smart *** , that?s just how he answers. And he does make a very good point ---- you do need to find all them missing impeller pieces. Also can see in your picture that the pump body has what looks to be some pretty good wear (the grooves that are at the bottom) and I?m guessing the cover plate you took off has some in it also. That means the new impeller probably won't last as long as the first one. But when you price a new pump ---- might decide to replace impeller more often.
Good Luck Muc

Sorry about that Bond-o

and thank you all for some great advice!!!

your right the pump does have wear marks...pretty bad but at this point I'm feeling a little poor. they qouted me about $500 for a replacemnt.

I will cut the tab off and check often to keep an eye on the impeller wear.

I'll start to take off all the hoses and check for the missing rubber. This is probably why my thermostat gauge stopped working for a month
