i just dried a 3 ft skin plans are to sew atop of the leather sling of my 3006 is there somekind of home oil that i can apply to keep skin (soft) thanks L M VASQUEZ

I assume you are talking about snakeskins.<br /><br />If so, I have “tanned” them using a solution of isopropyl alcohol (rubbing) and glycerin. I mix these in a 1:1 ratio and let them soak for about two to three weeks. The scales will come off but the skin will be very soft and retain its color. It will still look like it has the scales on it though. The glycerin will keep the skin soft and pliable. You should be able to find the glycerin at Wal-Mart or a drug store.
