Some guys have five stars, nice people who know a thing or two about engines an boats AND are willing to share it with others. Great! Kind of a guarantee for what they say is something to consider.

Now the rest of us have no stars at all. Thats ok. But I saw one poor dude who had two stars. What does that mean to us? Beware of his advices? Is he all bad?

A five star vote will get me five stars. One more vote for one star will make me a three star member? What does that mean to anyone?

Why not change to just one star for them who deserves them. After, say twenty "star wotes" they can get another. If you get three stars you are really something to this board. At five stars you are... *** .

I got here about a year ago and reads most of the topics. I know who I can trust. But this ratingsystem let the new guy able to see it right away who has earned a reputation here.

My suggestion is to change it a bit. I'm not fishing for some stars, trust me.

Keep the good work up everyone.

Bear

Re: Rating members?

I agree with you ,Bear....the rating system is just more "fluff" on the screen that I choose to ignore....the internet IS the best equalizer I have seen, take this site, for example....all the bull that a person can surround himself with, means nothing here....all that matters is your ability to form a clear, consise question/answer and put it on the board.....
and yer right..the only way to judge an idividuals skill level, or experience is by putting your time in on the board....there are people here with a depth of knowledge that i truly value....stars or not...LOL...makes me think about that old doctor seuss story about the 'sneetches'...
personally, I will not post on a prob unless I have a relatively good handle on the solution...there are boat motors out there that I have absolutely no experience on, and i would not post to such...being trusted and wrong is worse than not posting....I will stick to what I know well....and help those I can...

Re: Rating members?

All of that stuff that ODDD1 said: yeah, me too.

I am honored that there are stars out there, but a method to more accurately ensure that those mean something significant to a new boater would mean more to me.

Also: I don't think a rating of one or two stars should be read as a put-down on a poster. Some guys are very knowledgable but not great communicators, others are good with words but limited in experience. Value to a new boater with a problem requires both.

Red sky at night. . .
JBV :)
