I have a tandem trailer and recently lost both back sets of bearings. I am at the point of putting the calipers back on and cannot get them to fit over the rotors. Do brake pads swell, they did have grease on them after the bearing blowout? Also, how do the brake pads come out of the calipers, this is my first time doing this and I am stumped.

Re: Ranger Trailer Brakes

Remove your master cylinder cap. Put a block of wood between the calipers and spread the brake pads. They will spread they will resist but they should spread enough. The pads should NEVER swell due to contamination. It is a good idea to use brake cleaner on the pads prior to re-installing just in case they are greasy.

Bob

Re: Ranger Trailer Brakes

That is the strange part, the pads are spread all the way, the piston is flush, they came out fine, I was thinking of taking the pads out and sanding them just a hair to get them to fit. I cannot get the pads off, I take the clip off and I still cannot get them out.
