Ranger Trailer brakes lock when in reverse (uphill)

Have just bought a 1995 Ranger with Ranger Trailer. No owners manual however. The trailer has a cap that twists to engage or disengage the brakes. When I try to back uphill, this always moves and locks the trailer down. My driveway is on a hill and this causes me to have to leave my vehicle in the street while i get out to twist the cap again. One of these days my Blazer is gonna get smashed before i can do this. Am not mechanically inclined but there has got to be an easy solution to this. Any help would be appreciated.

there should be a hole somewhere around the hitch on the trailer. Mine has a locking lever that I can switch, so the wheels don't lock while backing up hill. Check with a local boat dealer, they should be able to help you out.
Good Luck!!

Is your trailer adaptable for an electric brake lockout solenoid actuated by the vehicle back-up lights?
