Ranger Boat Fuel Gage Problem

I have a 1994 Ranger 375V that the gas gage works only some of the time. Sometimes it works fine and other times, it doesn't work at all. Any ideas what I can check to fix this, or is this one of those "forget the gage and just look through the plastic tank" solutions?

Thanks!

Look for a loose or dirty connection at the tank and gauge.

Thanks for the reply. I did some searching on here and it looks like it could be a multitude of problems.

It is one of three things. 1) bad sender, 2) bad gauge, or 3 bad wiring. The sender should measure 30 - 240 ohms depending on where the float arm is. If the gauge moves at all, it is probably ok. Since the thing is intermittent, you need to stick your head under the console and tighten the wires. Then tighten the sender and ground wire at the tank.
