I just did a search and found very little about using Range Cubes for chum.
I had read somewhere else about using them and thought I might give it a try. Seven bucks for a 50# bag at Tractor Supply. I figured it was worth a try so last night the wife and were fishing. Nothing was happening as far as bites even on her semi-famous hot sauce chicken livers which always brings them in. I flipped in a few handfuls maybe three. Pretty soon we were getting some nibbles then bang we started hitting the cats. The wife started throwing those cubes over every few minutes.
The first couple we caught I noted how full their bellies were. I wondered if they were full of the cubes and later when we cleaned them I found they were. Every one we caught had a belly full of range cube.
The dangedest thing was how we caught some of them. I hooked one in the side and she hooked one in the top of the head, another was hooked in the side of the mouth on the outside. This tells me that they were swimming around our bait eating the cubes and just got unlucky.
The other thing was that the perch and minnows were just swarming the boat. Everywhere you looked over the side there was a mess of them.
Next time though we will be more judicious with the cubes and not throw so many over. It was an interesting experiment though.
Oh, and I caught my first stripper. Cute little thing about four inches long. I told him to go get his daddy but he never showed up....ha ha ha
