My 1978 Johnson 70 hp hasnt run in far too long. I know very little about it. It had been winterized, so I put oil in lower unit, and got some fresh gas. Put the ear muffs on the hose and fired it up. Had to hold the choke to get it to run, but once I went back to the motor after it ran for a few, there was a black spot on the grass that looked like oil. Any idea if this was just some gunk working its way out after a long sleep, or is there some seal needing replaced? I'm planning on cleaning the fuel filter, but would hate to mess something up by running it with some problem. Any tips from you experts would be awesome!

Well, first there was the fogging oil blowing out, then the oil that you put in the gas, which goes through the engine, and out the exhaust. Both normal. It doesn't need fixing. Not in that respect, anyway.

Bless you good sir. I will clean the fuel filter and see what happens. Just glad to hear that is normal.
