Hello,
I just bought a boat that has a omc outdrive.I lost all electrical on the boat the first time I took it out and I am trying to find out if there is any way to raise the out drive manualy or if there is a switch on the motor that raises the out drive. Thanks

Re: Raising the outdrive

Steve, if you want help, you need to give us more info on your boat. Without that nobody would know what kind of boat and outdrive you're talking about. It's an OMC, but does it have electric motor or hydraulic pump? Depending on the model of the boat, it can have a separate circuit for the outdrive pump (separate fuse) so that if you lose power in your whole boat, you can still raise the outdrive and get the boat out of the water (happened to me).

The more you say, the better advice you can usually get.

Hope you solve your problem soon so that you can enjoy the rest of the season.

Lou

Re: Raising the outdrive

My boat is an 17'Enterprise manufactured by Corwin. It has an omc 6cyl engine 3.8 liter and the out drive is omc also. Some one told me that you can open the electical conn close to the electric motor that raises the out drive and run a hot wire straight from the battery to the green or blue wire which ever one is up and it could be raised.Does any one know if this can be done?

Re: Raising the outdrive

Sure it can be done. I've done it before (boy, was I glad I had a spare set of thick wires with me) and it always does the trick.

Try to locate the connector (trace the wires from the motor/pump) and you will need to use two wires, ground and 12V, to raise the outdrive.

Your outdrive lifter el. harness is not on a separate fuse?

Good luck and don't burn yourself (the wires will get hot!)
Lou

Re: Raising the outdrive

I found the connector and it only had the blue and green wire,I guess the ground is a separate wire off of the electric motor to ground/engine block.I ran a thick copper ground wire from the pos of the battery to the connector on the blue wire and I could get a spark and hear the motor clicking but it was not moving. You said that you needed two wires to make it work the time you did it,could you tell me exactly how you did it.Maybe I was not holding the wire on the blue connector long enough or I need to run the other wire for a better ground?

Re: Raising the outdrive

Steve, I had to use two wires because the connector to my outdrive pump has three wires (blue, green and black). What you're doing is right, one wire should be enough if the outdrive motor is grounded separately.

As for the motor clicking, it's hard to tell what's wrong. Could you raise the outdrive without before? Was it working ok? Are the batteries charged?

Lou

Re: Raising the outdrive

I have had a similar problem on and off UNTILL
now the little electric motor would not lift the unit up still in the down position.connecting direct to battery didn't help don,t know how to get the unit up manually??
I Removed the motor and discovered it needed new brushes and had oil/water in it.
Apparently the is a o ring /seal in the outdrive that needs to be replaced??
hope this helps
Rick

Re: Raising the outdrive

I was able to raise the out drive by running a wire from pos of battery to blue wire at conn,I just had to hold it on there really solid to get a good connection and then it went up fine. Thanks for the help
