Raising Outboard on Transom

To resolve a problem of spray shooting up over the transom at higher speeds, the solution might involve raising the outboard on the existing transom mounting plate (I should be able to raise the outboard about 1"). As I experiment with this, I plan to temporarily shim up the transom with some wood spacers.

If this actually solves my problem, I will need to find a permanent way to shim the transom under the outboard mounting bracket. Any recommendations?

Thank you.

Put a piece of 5/4X2 pressure treated lumber under the motor.

If the motor is bolted to the transom, a spacer is not required and would serve no useful purpose. But then we have no idea what engine this is.

Oops! My apology. I have a 12-ft. inflatable with a 20HP Honda 4-stroke. The inflatable has a 15" transom approximately 1" thick.

Until I sort up the mounting location of the outboard, the outboard is attached to the transom with the 2 screws.

In addition to your thoughts on permanently shimming the transom, would it be advisable to bolt the outboard to the transom mounting plate?

Thank you for your help.

it's always advisable to bolt the engine on. not only better support. but deters theft. also gives you time to get the shotgun, for those that are more determined to take what;s yours.
