I have a 86 evinrude 110 v4. When you raise the motor for towing the carbs are tilted upside down. Is it normal for gas to run out. I noticed gas on the boat under the tilted motor. Here the drain line on the plastic carb air cover was not connected. When you tilt the motor all the way up should gas empty into the cover out the drain line back into the motor. Thanks

Yes........Make sure the line from air box is connected to the intake manifold. And the carbs are not "upside down". LOL.

Thanks. I had some work done and he forgot to reconnect that drain line so the gas ran out the back of the motor case instead of into the line

Does the gas come out of the engine through the carbs or the carbs.

You will sometimes get gas out of the carbs when you tilt it up and also spit back from the mtr when it's running. That's the reason for the hose going from the airbox to the intake manifold.

Re: Raised engine gas ?

I had the motor linkage adjusted and decided to take the boat for a text run. We went to one of the lakes on the Salt River here in Arizona. We had a heavy rain the day before so it was a nice 80 degrees and windy. Beats the 115 we have had the last couple month. We traveled across the lake and up the river. The are high rock mountains that come down right to the river edge. Some eagles were flying above the mountains. The boat ran perfect at all speeds. On our return go the dock the motor died about 15 ft from it. The strong Sind started pushing us to the rocks on shore. Lucky a lady was in a boat nearby. We tied up to her and I jumped into her boat to get mine to the dock. Close call. After some time looking over the motor I noticedthe timing thumb screw had backed off it's set position about 3/8". I could see the reference paint mark on the threads. At the time I did not know it but the locknut was missing. You would think the boat shop would have caught that. That and the drain line when the plastic cover was placed back on. Well we got it running and on the trailer. Back home we noticed a little gas floating on the bit of water in the transom. I let the motor run a little with the motor at a slight tilt before hauling it out of the lake. It was on the trailer in the water so I had to have the motor raised a bit. Thus the gas. Thanks Boobie. You get out to Arizona I'll take you for a run.
