I guess it is my lot in life to never get the boat finished. It is hard during the week to do a lot of work in the afternoon and the weekend weather around here has been nasty. I am about sick of it and am thinking about taking a day off this week just to work on the boat. Anyone know how convince the wife we need a shed big enough to cover the pontoon boat and have plenty of room to work?

Re: Rain and weather.

I feel for ya buddy cause I'm in the same boat (so to speak).. I been fooling around with mine for nearly 18 months and I still can see it being able to float anytime soon...

If it ain't work, its rain (always on a weekend too).. If it ain't rain its something else...

I damn near gave up on the whole she-bang this morning and if'n I would have had a chainsaw right handy, well, lets just say that the outcome for the boat would not have been pretty..

As for convincing a female for anything, I'm at a total loss... I don't even bother anymore.. Its an uphill battle and you'll probably have better luck finishing the boat before she finally makes up her mind... Just build it...(the shed) :D Damned if ya do, damned if ya don't...

Re: Rain and weather.

I had my best luck when I put man's needs in juxtaposition to women's needs.

Women, for example, need to shop. They can't be too skinny or look too young. They can't have too many pairs of shoes or handbags. . . . or clothes.

We, on the other hand, need to hunt and/or fish. We can't have too many guns, dogs, rods, good books or too good a boat. We must have a boat and maybe a good tow vehicle.

The sacrifices you make to family financial needs are manifest, and it is only fair that you are allowed to sacrifice by "doing" your boat thing in shelter. That allows flexibility in the family budget for shopping, cosmetics, shoes and clothes.

What do you think? Be sure to establish an escape route before trying this strategy. :)

You could try the, "If I had a shed for the boat then you'd have a lot more money for shopping", trick. You would explain that since you'd be in each evening you'd only bore your wife to tears, then she'd be better off going out with her friends or shopping.
And since you'd be in the shed there'd be no expence incurred.
And by the way it wouldn't hurt to point out that if you had a shed then a few more of those jobs about the place might well get done!

Just remember though, a wee saying my father taught me, apparently an eskimo saying - "Man who finishes his house dies!"
I have always left one job unfinished and it's held me in good steed with my wife since she appreciates that they all get done eventually.
Ross

Well Ross J, if that saying holds true, then I will live forever cause I have things to do that will never get done. :D
BTW JB, is juxtaposition a real word or one you made up? :p

Sorry about that, SBN. It means side-by-side.

I agree with JB go out get wet take a "sickday" and have her run around you all day 2 days later say you need a shed for your boat as you dont want to get sick again a little deciet but I ask my wife how much did it cost and when I see teh bill the amount is always higher but do have an exit stratagy
