Whether you are a first-time rider or world champion, having focus to your riding will bring more success, and thus more fun. You need a combination of elements in the right combination for the best results. Each element relies on the others to create a winning strategy.
Equipment Matters
Before you think about working on body position and technique, you need to start with equipment suited to your size, weight and performance level. Consider not just the board, but also flotation vest, wetsuit,
bindings and line. You want all the equipment to work harmoniously in a way that positively impacts your riding. Your wet suit and vest need to allow for full and free range of motion for your arms and legs.
For example, a too-big wetsuit or flotation vest will result in carrying extra water weight. Combine that with a board that is too small and your legs will feel heavy while your wake jumps will suffer.
You feel the board through your feet, so bindings that are too big will greatly affect your control of the board. Using a traditional water ski line (which has more stretch and spring) will also negatively affect your riding. A snug fitting binding will give you better edge control to the wake, while a tighter wakeboard-specific line will add to your air time.
In short, make sure the equipment is specifically meeting your needs and working for you.
