Hello readers: First post!

I just bought a 1995 Bayliner Capri 2050 LS Brunswick Anniversary Edition. Great boat that is supplying nothing but great times. The only issue I have had is that the radio does not work and I am not sure how to pull it out of the dash installation. It does have an after market pop-face cd player but no alterations to the dash took place so if you have ever had to pull one out, then hopefully you can help me get mine out!

I have installed numerous car audio systems and consider myself rather tech savvy but this radio will not come out and I am afraid of breaking a piece of the dash or trim.

PLEASE HELP!!

Does the head unit have a plastic bezel around it you can remove to expose the sleeve?

no bezel. it looks like i can see the sleeve, but the radio will not slide. I am afraid that it had the slider keys that you get with the radio when you buy it and the sleeve may have been screwed to the dash somewhere. It looks like there are two small pieces of trim on the dash that may be hiding screws or an easier way to get the radio out but i cannot get them off cause they look like they are going to snap off when I pull on them

Is there any access from underneath to take a look from there? I have a 1990 Capri and I believe I have access from underneath. I haven't swapped my radio out yet, still enjoying the vintage 21 year old tape deck/fm radio, don't have any tapes though.

like the vintage tape deck but your gonna have to find some tapes for that puppy!

I just came back inside from after fixing it. In case anyone is wondering, here you go:

There are two small plastic pieces of trim that snap on the dash that pop off. It looks as tho you are going to break them but if you put a flat head screw driver inbetween the trim and the bezel and pop it outward, they come right off exposing two screws in either side of the radio. Once you remove those 4 screws, the radio; sleeve and all will slide right out. The marine wiring to the radio has an inline fuse casing that is about 2 inches long, thin and white plastic. Simply twist the top of the fuse casing and out pops the 1 amp in-line fuse. This fuse blows easily especially if you store your boat outside and it endures the hot and cold temperatures.

This was a very easy fix to a seemingly big problem. $1.50 for a pack of 5 of these fuses and 15 minutes: problem solved. I am keeping a philips head screw driver and the other 4 fuses in the dry box in the boat dash from now on just in case since my radio is a CD player and has an Ipod hook up!

Thanks for the replies and the help fellas!

I think the fuse has too low a capacity. You won't hurt anything by bumping up to a 2 or 3 amp fuse.

I am going to have to bump it up and hopefully it works ok and doesnt burn the boat down! I have changed the fuse 3 times in two outings. The radio plays fine for about 2 hours or so but if you use the "loud" setting on the equilizer, play CDs etc. . . it burns out much faster. I am going to try a 2 amp fuse and if that doesnt work, im going to buy a new radio before I explore rewiring.

MOST radios from the last 5 years or so require at least a 10 amp fuse. 1 amp is NOT enough power to run a radio! Put in a 10 or 15 amp, the fuse does nothing more than protect from electrical fires if the radio shorts out. It will NOT keep the radio from shorting out. A properly wired and functioning radio will only draw the current it needs to work, no matter how big of fuse you have in it. A 30 amp fuse will blow before the boat burns down if it shorts!

The fuse that is blowing isnt the fuse on the actual radio. There is a 15 amp fuse on the back of the radio. Rather, this is an inline fuse that is on the marine side of the wiring that is used to control power surges to the radio should there ever be one fromt the power wire. I do not believe that big enough power surges ever come from a small marine set up such as this but someone believed there to be thus putting an INLINE FUSE in. If the 2 or 3 watt fuses do not work, then I am looking at cutting the wiring at the fuse casing, taking it out and connecting the wiring back bypassing the use of an inline fuse. Not 100% sure but the 15 amp fuse on the back of the radio should take care of the job making the inline fuse irrelevant anyways.

Thoughts?
