Hello,

I have a stereo system with 4 speakers and an amp. Also dual batteries with a switch. when boat is not running the system sounds great. When boat is running you get nothing but static interferance noise. Is this a ground issue with my deck? Should my ground for the amp be connected to the negative on the battery or to a ground on the motor?

thanks for any help

are you using suppression plug wires? this is the situation they were created for. a noise filter for car audio will also help.

The amp ground and stereo should be to the battery. What happens when you have a speaker hooked to the deck and not the amp, is the noise still there? If not, you have burned the RCA ground in your radio. To test for this, with the engine running and noise present, jumper a wire from ground (the radio chassis or ground wire) to the outside conductor of the rca cable. If this stops the noise, or makes it change, have your radio fixed! If this doesn't work, or if the noise is still there even with a speaker connected to the deck power, you need a filter and suppression wires and plugs as stated.

Thanks for the info. I will check the ground as soon as I can.... Probably this weekend.
