Racor Fuel Filter installation???

I was messing with my boat this afternoon and took a close look at the new Honda/Racor fuel/water seperation filter. I noticed that they had connected the incoming fuel line into a hole "MARKED OUT" indicated by an arrow and the same with the fuel line going to the motor. The bracket is mounted in the engine well and I think they did the mounting this way because the hole is located straight out from the fitting coming out of the hull. They used some kind of rigid fitting to make the connections thru the fiberglass.
My questions is basically, am I still getting filteration or does this bypass the filter element??? There 2 connections on that side, one in and one out, the out connection is being used for my Honda kicker motor. Every thing works well, but this kinda of bothers me because that was the purpose of having a filter. To change it I would need to buy a piece of hose a couple inches longer to make the angle and connection.
I suppose I could try to take a picture but we all know what the bracket looks like.
I think I will try to stop at West Marine tomorrow and take a good look at the assembly and ask some questions.

Re: Racor Fuel Filter installation???

If it didn't matter which way the fuel flowed why mark the ports to begin with?

The filter is designed to have the incoming fuels swirls around the outside of the filter shedding the heavier water molecules in the process. The clean fuel is then withdrawn thru the center of the filter.

The way your setup I would imagine that your defeating the water removal process by having the fuel flow backwards thru the filter

Re: Racor Fuel Filter installation???

Dingbat, I agree with you 100%. I found a telephone number for the Racor Tech support and called them a few minutes ago. The tech says that the filter will remove particles , "BUT" will not remove water. So, now I must figure out how to do it right or take it back to Cap Sante in Anacortes which if 40 miles from me. I can't believe they would do this since they are the largest boat service/sales company in the area. These guys work on things up to the large Yacht boats and yes, even the smaller boats. They also sell Mercury and Honda engines.
