Anyone planning to attend the annual Lake Minnetonka Crappie Contest, April 23rd ?

I'll have to take some pics if the weather is good. Sometimes it appears if you could walk from boat to boat in the smaller bays.

When I lived nearby my son and I went every year, Kevin.

One year, around 1980, they had to postpone it a week because the ice wasn't out. Son won a sweet Johnny 7.5 with a 2lb crappie. It was the only tournament I ever entered, and I did it three or four times. Great fun. More party than tournament.

1980, Hmmmm.
thinks I remember that year. My dad and I also went religously back then. If you can remember a 15' 1957 Lyman (lapstrake) with a 65Hp Johnson parked at Lord Fletchers that was us.

2lb Crappie, where in the world did your son catch a monster like that on Tonka, and dont say Seaton or Black lake.

Does your son still have the 7.5 ??

He caught it right off from the dock at the "Viking" house that had the big deck boat with the Viking logo on it. I think it was Fran Tarkington's (sp?)house.

It was a great day for a 14 year old. Not only did he beat his Dad and Dad's other fishing buddy, he won an outboard of his own. I think it was second prize. He used that engine until he joined the Corps. Then gave it to a younger fishing buddy. :)

NBig, I'll take either or both. Is that primarily a spring location?

NO all season. The problem is skiers and others go up there once the waters warm up so it does get crouded. I am going out on saturday morning and will take some pics and show you some land marks, and other locales once I determine water depth for the begining of the year.
But I know for sure the west side of forest is always good bass fishing, so is the channel getting there, I like to troll thru real slow like.

Kevin, the west sid eof forest lake there is a LARGE spanish style house with a tile roof. His lake shore is reeds and weeds if you anchor off his point or troll around the edge iof the weeds the Bass and northerns are already up there. We were about the only ones that had a successful opener. We passed about 20 guys out in the depths getting nothing using live bait. We used a combo of spinners and Rapala's and hit them hard. As I said it should be good untill it gets crouded then they start to move south out of the lake thru thwe channel to the main portion of "lower" Tonka(witch is acttually the north side and the south side ias considered "upper"
Good luck and let me know if you want any other "hot spots" I have a ton.

Nothinbig, really Nothinbig..............
