Have decided to replace the engine in our Sunbird.
(freeze damage mentioned in earlier post)
Will be purchasing long block overhaul unit.

Is removeing and replacing a marine engine any more difficult than R & R ing an automobile engine?

Are there any good shop manuals for the do it your selfer?

How many hours would a shop take to R and R Including swaping manifolds, oil pan, etc.

Normally can have the existing motor out in about 30 to 45 minutes. Swapping over exhaust and other items depends on accessories. Just about impossible to give a specific time allotment. Flat rate book is BS! A do-it your-selfer with mechanical experience should be able to do the job in a day. Any aftermarket manual will be helpful.

Doing the engine r+r is much easier than doing one in a car. If you have a Cobra drive, you might consider having a shop r+r the drive, so they can check alignmet etc. It won't cost you much and could save you a lot of headaches. The engine is a piece of cake to do.

Depends alot on the boat you are pulling that engine out of.Some builders make it practically impossible but to my recollection ,your's should'nt be too bad.Be prepared to remove some upolstery panels ,but other than that ,it is generally easier than pulling an automotive engine.
