This is wierd. I have a mid 80's stroke 7.5, that I left the gas in for about 6 months. I was unable to start the motor, so I pulled the carb and cleaned it. Took the motor out for a spin and had an issue with the motor cutting out and dying. The motor would only run if I was slowly pumping the ball. I moved the gas can off the floor of the boat and placed it on a chair in the boat and the motor ran fine. It work for several trips. Just recently the motor started dying again. I placed the tank on the ground and the motor stop dying and ran fine. Can anbody tell me what's going on. I am guessing it has something to do with the fuel pump "gaskets" in the carb. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

Your first problem was a check valve in the fuel pump leaking and now you have a inlet needle leaking. Sorry but thought about it for a minute and it could be the fuel pump diaphragm was stiff from varnish and now it'd split.
