Hi all. Hoping the talent on here can help a friend of mine out.
He is just about to put a deposit on a boat. The boat is the opposite end of the uk from him.
Pictures were sent just this minute and show what’s clearly a fairly recent quicksilver branded outer transom assembly. The boat is a 2008 and the transom assembly looks very much newer than that. Just wondering if there is anyone can tell me the age of the assembly fr it’s serial number. I can’t find anything close to even getting that info. Not sure I’ve ever even seen a quicksilver branded assembly. I’m aware it’s obviously Mercury, but wonder about the year.
Serial number stamped on label is 2A667781
Thanks all. Hoping to get some info quickly before he does or doesn’t leave the deposit and set off south.

A 2A prefix serial number is of later vintage than 2008 for sure, how new I do not know but would guess within last 5ish years?

Being a quicksilver brand with boat located overseas from US would guess that it's more a global product identifier than mercury brand. Yes still both brands made in WI, US but quicksilver brand designated "global" mercury brand designated "domestic". Guessing it's marketing more than anything

Can't comment on year but transom looks newer than drive, guessing transom was replaced. Given bubbling on drive assuming corrosion

Normally quicksilver branding is so it can be sold outside of the Mercury Dealer network. Mercury branded items are only sold at Merc dealers.

If you go to merc's online catalog and put in serial this is what comes up

If you click on QS alpha one it puts it under remans, Quicksilver Manufactured. Not sure if it is just a matter of where or to whom it is sold or if it is a remanufactured part or certified preowned (CPO) part ? Bottom line it is a GEN two with different logos on it...

Amazing info Scott. Greatly appreciated. Yeah. It’s definitely been replaced. The outdrive itself looks original and painted with black anti foul.
The worry is what it’s been replaced..:eek:n an otherwise seemingly well kept and low hour boat. The gimble ring looks new too.

Hard to determine from the keyboard. I had never seen a quicksilver labeled transom before...

I assume it was slip kept and someone didn't keep up with watching corrosion. could have also busted a gimbal ring from hitting something may have found used drive but needed new transom housing... just conjecture ...

It's quite likely it's been replaced as mercruiser specify for it to replaced every 10 years. The tiller arm seal wears & if left unchecked leaks & corrodes. How I know is my last boat sank on its mooring because of it as it hadn't been picked up by the marine mechanic. Also just had one fitted to my new boat AUD$9000 + fitting.

Thanks for the info. It’s had a number of serious works. The engine has been in bits, along with a new coupler, to name a few. He’s decided to give it a pass. Good chance it’s been over loaded or seen some salt water ingress.
