I have a mercury 115 on my pontoon boat. It had a stainless prop when i got it but had a small chip on one of the blades. I took it in to have the chipped area welded and the prop refurbished. It was supposed to cost 50 bucks. it cost 130. that was irksome enough. When i looked the prop over i found that the leading edces of the blades are dead flat. shouldn't they be rounded or sharpened or something. That edge looks like it will cause a cavitation issue because of the drag....
Any suggestions?

Did you discuss the costs and the reason for the variance with the prop rebuilder? Going from $50 to $130 is a significant jump.

Did you ask them any of the questions you are asking the forum regarding your concerns on the blade edges?

Have you actually used this prop yet? Sounds like you may not have, so until you run it, how would you know there is even a problem?

If I was you I'd ask my questions of the rebuilder, and if they say all seems in order, put the prop on the boat and run it. If you have problems report them back to the rebuilder and go from there.

I can't imagine the leading edges would affect performance and I for sure wouldn't want my "knife edged". The thing is deadly enough as it is, lol.

As for the cost jump; it takes two of us to have a transaction. After the fact is probably not the ideal time to take issue.

Actually they do. That is one of the things that makes SS props outperform comparable alum props. SS prop mfgrs. make it a point to point that out to you when shopping for a prop.
