i am trying to find instructions and adjustments for quicksilver shift cable assembly 865436a02. i installed it but it looks a little different from the one i had.now the kick down does not work.this is on a alpha one 1986 model. the shift cable i took off had a smaller diameter cable and a small metal tube at the linkage end. this new cable is the replacement for the old one.my clymers book says to cut end to 1and3/8 but shows the old style cable. am i supposed to cut this one as well. is this why my kick down doesnt work? any info would be appriciated. thanks

Throw the clymer away. That thing will cost you more than it will save you.

You do NOT cut the new cables. They are set up to be the right length out of the box. Use manual #6 and follow the direction.

There is no 'kick-down' on a boat, that for automatic tranny cars. Look in the 'stickie' section of this forum for my videos, I have one for the shift cable adjustment...

The switch only activates in certain circumstances. It is only designed to activate when getting OUT of gear on the water. No other time.

Per fishermark, If it moves any other time its because the shift cable is bad and needs replacing
