Quicksilver Remote Shifter Locks in Forward

I have a 1988 Mercury 115 with the Quicksilver Remote Control Box w/trim...This past weekend the shift lever started locking in Forward at about the 3/4 to full speed position ...Normally, in the Neutral positon, the shifter is locked...you would then depress the red bar in the shift lever in order to move it to Forward or Reverse and it would lock when returned to the Neutral position...Now, in the Forward position, it locks just as if it is in Neutral, and the only way to unlock it is to depress the red lever and pull it back to Neutral...Reverse works fine...

Any information would be greatly appreciated...

I had a problem with mine and fixed it for $10. I posted pictures of my repair in the thread "Mercury Quicksilver Control Repair".

Re: Quicksilver Remote Shifter Locks in Forward

Based on some schematics I found for my Quicksilver Commander 2000 Remote Control Box, I was able to determine that the Neutral Lock Holder might be broken and causing the shift lever to become locked in the Forward position...I unmounted the Control Box from the side of the boat, removed the rear bolt holding the shift lever to the Control Box, and exposed the Neutral Lock Holder....(See Picture)

Sure enough, it had cracked and the broken piece (white piece in picture) had slipped down away from the screw that holds it in place....The spring loaded Neutral Lock Bar (Red Bar) slides along the top of the Neutral Lock Holder when the Shift Lever is put in Forward or Reverse...and locks when the Shift Lever is in neutral...So when I pushed the Shift Lever forward, and the Neutral Lock Bar would go past the area where the Neutral Lock Holder had broken, the Lock Bar would drop down and lock... so you could not throttle back or return to neutral with out lifting up on the Neutral Lock Bar...

I found the part on ********** for $2.36 and with shipping totaled $4.11!

great, I am glad you found and fixed it. The alternative was to use that control for racing only....
