I recently acquired a used Quicksilver prop #48-73890-A5-19p... can anyone tell me anything about this? Does it compare to a Tempest or Laser? What Hp is it designed for? I have a 2002 Merc 150 XR6 with an aluminum merc 19P ... will this prop work on it and will it perform better? Any help would be great.. Thanks.

Years ago, all accessories were branded Quicksilver. These days Mercury is running two brands of accessories. There is the Mercury brand for mercury dealers, and there is the Quicksilver brand, this allows for non-merc dealers/3rd party retailers to sell 'Merc' parts This also applies to propellers, though comparing Mercury Props to Quicksilver Props, sometimes there are subtle differences.

Hi

from what I can tell, this is just a shiny stainless version of a standard ally prop like a black max or similar.
With regard to its suitability for your engine...that’s a whole bigger question. Details around the following for starters, would be required;

What boat is the engine on
what gear ratio
what rpm range for engine and what wot do you currently see and with what prop
what wot gps speed with current prop
your engine will be a 15 spline shaft to hub fitting. Make sure it’s at least hub matching.

Just a few starters for you. If you already are well aware of such things, I apologise...if not, it’s a mine field that needs careful consideration. For example, if you currently have a 21” standard ally prop and all is well with performance and suitability....throwing a 19” stainless prop like this on would just be silly. It would only increase your rpm (likely over revving) and slow you down. Like I say, it’s a complex issue with many factors to be considered.
Bottom line, this prop is likely no better than a standard ally prop of same pitch. Just a bit shinier !

After googling the p/n, it looks like an early rubber hub version of a Silverado/Vengeance prop. Which is essentially a no frills aluminum prop made from SS. How does it compare to a tempest or a Laser? Aside from having 3 blades and made from SS, it doesn't. Those two are performance props. The silverado isn't really meant for speeds in excess of 50mph. The Laser was primarily designed for lighter weight bass boats under 22'. The tempest is a larger diameter, high cup, and high rake prop. It's meant for heavier boats 20'+. It likes to run near the surface.

Boat - Starcraft Superfisherman 196
I believe its 1:87
5600 RPM and 43mph with my current prop. It is the standard aluminum merc 19P

From what you are saying I'm thinking I won't see much of a difference with this SS prop.

A quick starter fom : Test must be done on flat calm water cond.

-Firstly need to know factory stated min and max wot rpm range for that engine which is ?

-Go for a water wot test as loaded with current installed prop and check max wot rpm achieved.

-Go for same wot test with other SS prop and check max rpm achieved on second run.

If need to choose between both props, stay with the one that dials middle to max wot rpm range.

If combo counts with fixed load much better to dial and fine tune spot on props.

Being both props19 pitched probably will see little rpm difference and speed between each other.

Happy Boating
