quicksilver controls

I have been looking, but can't seem to find out how I can repair a set of quicksilver controls that have a cut electrical harness. It's cut about a foot after the controls, so I need to rewire the whole thing. I saw wiring harness' on one site I found, but it was all part numbers, no pictures or descriptions. These are being mated up to a 1991 Mariner 40hp. The motor has tilt, but the controls don't have the switch ( not that that is that big of a deal, we can wire that no problem ) Considering the cost of controls and the fact that these were free.....well, you know what I'm saying here.

Anyone have a source or a good place to look or any other information that can help me restore these things back to working order again?

Re: quicksilver controls

A service manual should have a wiring diagram included. You can use butt connectors to splice the wires from the controls to the motor, or just replace the 1 foot section, with the new wiring harness. If it were me, I would try to get a used wiring harness. Any harness that mates to the motor should work. The colors of the wires are even likely to be the same.

BTW - I mated a wiring harness from a '93 merc V6 to the controls I had from my '77 Merc 1500. I had to create a crossconnect table since the wiring colors had changed in the ensuing 16 years. However the function of the ignition switch and the other controls is standard.

I guess that's what I was thinking would be the case. In the works on procuring a manual for it, hopefully can find a new/old wiring harness for it.
