I got my 1963 18hp evinrude fastwin to run like a top, it will idle all day and takes off like a rocket! sounds great too! just one thing...when I move the throttle from fast to slow and back to fast again quickly the motor will pop and wants to stall.....is something wrong or is this normal for a 1963 outboard?

Depending on how raqpidly you make that movement, The engine could be going into a lean burn condition. Simply don't run it like that.

You have to remember that the spark advance on that engine is mechanical. Years of old grease and crud build up can make the breaker (points) plate react a little slow.

That's OK, just so you know to try and avoid that type of throttle action.
