I am looking to repower and was told by a Yamaha rep that they do no offer a long shaft 50 four stroke.

Can that be right?

I am wanting a current model in the box never run engine but need a 25'' shaft.

I really want a Yammy but not bad enough to cut my boat.

Long shaft in most areas is a 20 " motor.-------So what boat do you have and what does the transom measure ??-----I am sure they make a 20" model 50 hp.

S = 15"
L = 20"
X = 25"
U = 30"

There is a FT50C listed as a 25"

An F50LB is a long shaft model. Long meaning 20".

Seems that you are looking for an F50XB which is an extra long shaft model. Which Yamaha does not offer.

Running a '81 Evinrude now that is 25''.

Confirmed today at work, no one makes a 25'' 50 currently so looks like I am trimming my transom.

I was hoping to just switch motors.

Not a huge deal, the engineer at work said I should be good only trimming 2'' off, I am running a 6'' setback too which helps.

Getting prices tomorrow so I will start puckering now.

Lower blew up on the Rude and I can't see putting a rebuilt $1500 lower on it.

Thanks guys.

16' freshwater boat requiring a 25" shaft motor? Never seen a tin boat like that.

Set back ? 6" but measures 20" there.

A 20" motor should be perfect for that.

Can't imagine running a 25", the AV plate would be 6" under water.
The AV plate should just skim across the top of the water when on plane.

And what does the bottom bolts missing the wood in the transom matter, if you are mounting to a pod of some sorts?

Either way, the transom bracket is standard, regardless of the shaft length.

For what its worth, Tohatsu makes a 50 hp 4 stroke in 15", 20", and 25" shaft lengths. Model MFS50

And the Merc 60 is the same block as the 50. I bet you could special order a 50 with a 25" shaft from the 60.
I'm guessing they don't list it for lack of demand.

5150-----Your 81 is NOT a 25 inch motor.----They never offered a 25 " in 81.-----Confusion in how to measure motors is rampant.----Or perhaps a " bay kit " was installed to make it 25".-----Pictures help !

I have built pontoon boats since the beginning of time, the transoms are 20 or 25, I knew I didn;t have a short shaft so assumed incorrectly that it was a 25 so that si where that came from..
