Quick Question: What Fastener Sealant?

When installing fasteners (stainless sheet metal screw) through my floor (fiberglass), what sealant should I use to keep water from getting through the hole? I've seen many references to make sure to use sealant, but haven't seen any mention of what to look for at the store. I'll be getting this at W/M.

Thanks,
Scott

3M 5200 for permanent, 3M 4200 if you may want to remove it later.

5200 is supposedly permanent, whatever that means.
I tend to shy away from 5200 in favor of 4200 for the difference in drying times.

Thanks, sounds good!

Are these primarily for locking the fastener (ie - loctite), or also for sealing out water?

It's a gooey cream type stuff that takes a while to dry, and it dries rubbery. It's good stuff.

They are sealing adhesives. Both have the same sealing properties.

The difference is in their adhesive properties. I don't know the number right off hand, but the difference is on the magnitude that one will lift a car, the other a pickup truck

Re: Quick Question: What Fastener Sealant?

Thanks all for the quick replies. I'll pick up some 4200 then on my way home. Hopefully my fire extinguisher is lighter than a car, so I should be all set.

Thanks!
