Re: quick question for honda owners

I don't own a Honda, but they're what we use on the river boats. 30Hp motors. We use generic dino 10W 30 and it's replaced every 14 days. Never had an oil related problem. We use it because it's cheap. We buy it by the 55 gallon drum.

I run Mobil 1 synthetic 10W-30. It makes me feel better 100 miles out of town (and another 80 miles to the next closest) on a multi-day trip.

The engine is a 130hp...

In the 4 years I've had mine I've been running Castrol 10W-30 and it hasn't missed a beat.

Redline 5w30.

Mine being a Jetdrive, I cruise at 5500 RPM. That's a good potential to wear a motor pretty fast. I'll want the best protection here.

My Honda Marine factory manuel and the suppliment for it specifically states that this viscosity is (prefered)on my '02 BF50. It also states that 10w30 can be used, but it isn't prefered.
Knowing that one of the advantages of using synthetic it is allowable to lower your viscosity. Thereby taking full advantage of increased efficiency, power and economy that synthetic was designed for.
I feel confident I have my bases covered.

As far as the brand, Redline is a specialty oil. It's at a premium price and isn't available everywhere. My last case expired and my next change will be Mobil1. I feel equally confident with either.

Mobil 1 10W30 in my BF130 since its first oil change. I fish in Baja and it's hot, both the water and the air, so I use synthetic in both the lower and upper ends because it tolerates a higher heat range. At least, that's the justification I've always used on myself for spending more on synthetic. I change it once a year, regardless of how many hours I've put on it (usually less than 100).

10W-30.

Honda service center told me that it was ok to run synthetic even though warranty specifies 10w-30.

Slightly apprehensive........Perhaps I should wait until the warranty is over.....

I'm confused...

Which part of 10W-30 indicates synthetic, or dinosaur oil?

I think I know the answer. :)
