Just traded my 96 17' tracker for a 18'10" charger with an 87' 150hp motor. Boat shop called today and said the starter has 1 of 3 mounts broken and a second is stripped and loose. Starter is bad. They didn't run motor but said that after visual inspection that the number 5 cylinder was damaged. He said that it would be cheaper to put on a new powerhead than to overhaul the engine. He mentioned the damaged starter mounts as another reason.
I had boat running in driveway. It will start and run just fine but after shut down it won't start back up. The starter was going bad and just happen to quit the last night in driveway.
What I need to know is should I get the new powerhead or can I just weld the mounts and bore the one bad cylinder.
I nay have chance to trade boat back to the original owner but if this is fixable for reasonable amount I would like to keep boat. Thank you for any comments
