does anyone know how much pressure it takes to open the anti-siphon valve? For those who have not read my other thread, I have a problem with the engine bogging when under a load. I have checked everything else and now I'm down to the anti-siphon valve. I've got this bugger off and it looks clean and shiny, but I have to blow hard enough my ears pop to get air through it and even then it sounds as if it isn't opening completely, like the little ball is reciprocating in the valve body. This could be a result of not enough air pressure, but if fuel pressure is supposed to be around 5 surely the valve operates at a max of 5 huh? Surely with all the years of playing sax I can deliver 5 lbs by mouth. Am I wastin daylight here?

yes you are.
you should have used a vacum guage on the fuel line.
those anti-siphon valves come in a varity of opening pressures depending on the tank and the fuel line drop.
if fuel system vacum exceeds about 5"Hg the fuel may boil. also be aware a lot of fuel tanks have a screen in the draw tube.
you can install a standard fuel nipple and test it but the vacum guage will still be nedded to test for a restricted draw tube.

The Johnson-Evinrude service manual test procedure is to remove the anti-shiphon valve and attach a 2.5' clear 3/8" hose to it and hold it by the hose so the valve "dangles". Make a mark at 20" and at 25" from the valve. Add 20" of water to the hose and the checkball should "hold". Start adding up to 25" of water and the ball should release at or before the 25" mark.
