Re: Questions relating to a Mercury 7.5hp Outboard

This flushing info. is for my Merc 7.5 hp which is a 1969 model so I don't know if this will apply to you (I tried to imput your serial number to Merc's part page but it said it was wrong)

Check your Mercury Serial Number here:
http://www.mercurypartsexpress.com/PartsExpress/ProductSelection/ServiceParts/serialnbrlocator.asp

Flushing instructions:
"Remove flushing plug (marked "FLUSH") and washer from flushing hole(don't lose the washer and replace when done); flushing hole should be beneath drive shaft trim cover. Connect flushing device (Part No. C-24789A1) for Merc 110--75-40) available from your Mercury dealer (looks like a small rubber insert nozzle that fits into flushing hole; this attachment fits onto a standard garden hose).

While flushing, operate starter to facilitate water flow through water pump. Do not use full pressure from city water tap. As a precautionary measure, remove propeller before flushing motor... or be sure to stand away from propeller when flushing.

While and after flushing, keep motor in the upright position, resting on skeg, until all water has drained from drive shaft housing to prevent water from entering the powerhead via drive shaft housing and exhaust ports."

Again, these instructions were for a 1969 model Merc 75 so look to see if your model flushing plug is in the same spot. Everything else should be similar.

Good luck!
