thanks for asking robert. i literally just got done putting the new one in. the bolts were a little bit hard to get started, but really once you get use to that akward position your body is in it goes pretty quick.

anyway-that was it, she starts up perfectly now! must have been a problem with the starter or starter solenoid on the rebuilt piece of junk the mechanic put in.

im just bitter i didnt do it myself the first time.

thanks for all your help guys, i couldnt have done it without you all.

oh robert, the symptoms i was having was that the engine wasnt turning over immediately on turning the key (it would turn over like 5 seconds later after a kind of slipping noise)

dave,
Thanks for input. Sounds like a job well done!

i have a sluggish starter - it sometimes just clicks and nothing happens or it barely turns enough to start.
Did you get a new starter? I have been looking online at various supply houses and seem to get a variety of prices on OEM to rebuilt.

ps-mine use to click every now and then too, if you played with it it would eventually start, then one day it just plain didnt work.-i tried replacing the slave solenoid first-near the red circuit breaker button, but it didnt work.

thx for reply Dave
i was pretty sure but did not want to order wrong one with the long trip to get to boat. the nearest marina wanted $350 so it pays to bring it from off island.

I am thinking about trying the newer mini starter that uses the shorter bolts. It is supposed to be easier to install as it is lighter and smaller. Also it is able to crank faster. Anyone use before?

Being Double-Jointed Helps,................ :D

On Most boats there are Seats, or Panels, or Whatever that has to be Removed before the actual Starter Replacement begins.................

Don't forget to pull 1 of the Battery Cables, Before you start............... ;)
