I have a 93 Ranger 3.0 V6 with 187,000 miles. I have always used 5W-30 oil like the manual says. It uses about a quart between 4-5K oil changes. Would you change to something different like 10W-30 or 10W-40? I live in Texas and it doesn't get cold much, but rather warm :) in the summer. Also I have a 01 Explorer that says 5W-30 also. It doesn't use any between changes same interval. Should I change it? Also have a 98 Ranger 4 banger, also use 5W-30, should I change it? 98 is daughters, 93 is son's, 01 is better halfs. I drive 93 Subaru and use 10W-30 as its manual says. Sometimes feel like a fleet manager trying to keep up with all of them.

Boy, "What would I do?? You didnt mention if you were using Dino or Synthetic? But it sounds like things are going pretty well with what you are doing, you cant go wrong following the owners manual. The consumption seems OK. I myself have a 93 Ranger 4X4, 4 Liter, 5SP, with 145,000 mi, I have 10W-30 Mobil1 in it now, as the last time I changed it I didnt have any Amsoil and had the Mobil1 so Im using it up! Ill change it at 5,000 mi, and Im going to use the 15W40 Diesel Marine Amsoil in it, Im going to run it 7,500 mi, and do an oil analysis on the oil just to find out how long I can go with this oil! Personnaly I would use a 10W30, or because of the milage Penzoil long life 15W-40! If I had a fleet of cars like your, I might concider using 10W-30 in all of them so I could just buy one oil, Ya, thats it, 10W-30 in all of them! :D That was easy!!
