I think I pretty much understand but I want to make sure on a few things so I don't screw something up.
Does the spark tester need to be attached to the #1 plug wire or can it be on any of them?
Does the other end of spark tester just hang free or is it grounded to the motor?

My motor(J200STELOA) has the quickstart. I should unhook the white/black wire coming from cyl and ground to motor on power pack end correct?

Just wanting to make sure I fully understand before trying this procedure.
Thanks

The spark tester must be on the #1 plug wire, that's the one that you put the timing light on when you set the timing.

To disable quickstart you'll ground the wire coming from the power pack.

Should the other end of spark tester be grounded to motor? And should the other plug wires be grounded to motor?

Yes, the other end of the spark tester need to be grounded, just like a spark plug. As for the other plug wires, I wouldn't ground. I've done it with the other plug wires just dangling and I've also gone to the trouble of putting a spark plug in each and grounding the spark plugs to the block (I wanted to verify that each plug was firing) - if you do that just make sure that fuel/air mixture being blown out of the cylinders isn't gonna' get lit by one of the spark plugs.

Are you timing at cranking rpm?

If so, just disconnecting the w/b wire may not disable the quick start. Start the motor cold and watch the rpms. If the rpm’s drop after a few minutes then the quick start is still active. In that case open up the power pac and disconnect the yellow/red wire at the bayonet connector, then check again. The quick start advances the timing by 4 degrees. If not taken into account the motor will act up.

The quick start engages at every start but only for a second or two.
