I have a 1988 Maxum bowrider that originally had a 3.0 MerCruiser and I am getting ready to replace it with a new MerCruiser 4.3. I was wondering if there are any differences I should be aware of when it comes to electrical and fuel hookups. The new motor mounts are in place and the drive ratio issue has been taken care of with a new SEI upper.
The old engine used a mechanical fuel pump and the new one has an electric unit as well as the boat currently has a 10 pin connector whereas the new engine uses a 14 pin connector. I found an adaptor that allows the 14 pin connector to work with the 10 pin unit but do I need to make any changes for the electric fuel pump to work?
Also do I need to get gaskets for the exhaust Y pipe or new rear motor mount bolt assemblies for the new engine or does MerCruiser include them with the new engine?
Anything else I should be aware of?
Thanks a lot!
